Crochet octagon pattern #3

Yarn: weight 4, worsted Hook: 5 mm Size: 11.8 inches, 30 cm

Crochet Terms: US
Abbreviations: st – stitch, sl-st – slip stitch, ch – chain, sc – single crochet, hdc – half double crochet, dc – double crochet, tr – treble crochet, fp – front post, bp – back post, Front Post Puff st – Yarn over, insert hook from front to back to front around post of indicated st, yarn over and pull up a loop, repeat 3 more times, 9 loops on hook, yarn over and pull through all 9 loops, ch 1 to close front post puff stitch, popcorn – 5dc in same st, remove hook from loop and insert from front to back of 1st dc and into a dropped loop and pull through. To close popcorn ch 1. Ch 1 counts as a part of popcorn st. Cluster of 2dc -Yarn over, insert hook into indicated stitch or space, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. Repeat once more in the same stitch or space. 3 loops on hook. Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops.

ROUND 1. Slip knot (R1.1), ch4 (R1.2), insert hook into 1st chain (R1.3), yarn over and pull through to form a ring (R1.4), ch2 (R1.5), 16dc into the ring (R1.6). Join to 1st dc with a sl-st. (R1.7)

ROUND 2. ch1 (R2.1), fpdc around ch2 and 1st dc of round 1 (R2.2)(R2.3), *ch2, skip next st, fpdc around next st (R2.4)*, repeat ** 8 times. Omit last fpdc. Join to 1st fpdc with a sl-st, fasten off, and secure ends. (R2.5)

ROUND 3. Join with a standing popcorn in any skipped st of round 1 (R3.5) (standing dc into indicated st (R3.1), 4 more dc in same st (R3.2), remove hook from loop and insert from front to back of standing dc and into a dropped loop (R3.3) and pull through (R3.4). To close popcorn ch1 (R3.5). Ch1 counts as a part of popcorn st.), *ch3, popcorn in next skipped st of round 1 (R3.6)*, repeat ** 8 times. Omit last popcorn. Join to standing popcorn with a sl-st, fasten off, and secure ends. (R3.7)(R3.8)

ROUND 4. Join with a standing fpsc around any popcorn (R4.1), *ch2 (R4.2), working in front of ch3 space of round 3 fpdc around dc of round 2 (R4.3)(R4.4), ch2, fpsc around next popcorn of round 3 (R4.5) *, repeat ** 8 times. Omit last fpsc. Join to standing fpsc with a sl-st. (R4.6)

ROUND 5. ch1, sc in same st (R5.1), *skip ch2 space, in next st (cluster of 2dc, ch2, cluster of 2dc, ch2, cluster of 2dc), skip ch2 space, sc in next st (R5.2)*, repeat ** 8 times. Omit last sc. Join to 1st sc with a sl-st, fasten off, and secure ends. (R5.3)

ROUND 6. Join with a standing fpsc around any 2nd cluster of 2dc (R6.1), *in ch2 space (2sc, hdc), fpdc2tog over next 2 clusters skipping sc in a middle, in ch2 space (hdc and 2sc), fpsc around next st (R6.2)*, repeat ** 8 times. Omit last fpsc. Join to standing fpsc with a sl-st, fasten off, and secure ends. (R6.3)

ROUND 7. Join with a standing sc in any fpsc (R7.1), *sc in next 3 sts (R7.2), sc in next st (R7.3), fptr around fpsc of round 4 made around popcorn (R7.4)(R7.5), sc in same st of round 6 (R7.6), sc in next 4 sts (R7.7)*, repeat ** 8 times. Omit last sc. Join to standing sc with a sl-st. (R7.8)

ROUND 8. ch1, sc in same st (R8.1), *sc in next 2 sts (R8.2), skip next 2 sts, 7dc in next st, skip next 2 sts, sc in next 3 sts (R8.3)*, repeat ** 8 times. Omit last sc. Join to 1st sc with a sl-st, fasten off, and secure ends. (R8.4)

ROUND 9. Join with a standing bpsc around any 3rd sc (R9.1), *skip next 2 sts, (fptr around next st, ch1, bptr around next st, ch1) 3 times, fptr around next st (R9.2), skip next 2 sts, bpsc around next st (R9.2)*, repeat ** 8 times. Omit last bpsc. Join to standing bpsc with a sl-st, fasten off, and secure ends. (R9.3)

ROUND 10. Join with a standing fpsc around any bpsc (R10.1), *ch2 (R10.2), (fp puff around next st (R10.3)(R10.4)(R10.5), ch3, skip (ch1, fptr, ch1)) 2 times, fp puff around next st, ch2, fpsc around next st (R10.6)*, repeat ** 8 times. Omit last fpsc. Join to standing fpsc with a sl-st, fasten off, and secure ends. (R10.7)

ROUND 11. Join with a standing fpdc around any 2nd fp puff (R11.1), *2dc in ch3 space of round 10 and ch1 space of round 9 together, fpdc around next st of round 10, 2dc in ch3 space of round 10 and ch1 space of round 9 together, fpdc around next st of round 10, dc in ch2 space of round 10 and ch1 space of round 9 together, (fpdc around last fptr of round 9, fpsc around fpsc of round 10 and fpdc around next fptr of round 9 together), dc in ch2 space of round 10 and ch1 space of round 9 together, fpdc around next st of round 10, 2dc in ch3 space of round 10 and ch1 space of round 9 together, fpdc around next st of round 9, 2dc in ch3 space of round 10 and ch1 space of round 9 together, fpdc around next st of round 10 (R11.5)*, repeat ** 8 times. Omit last fpdc. Join to standing fpdc with a sl-st, fasten off, and secure ends. (R11.6)

ROUND 12. Join with a standing bpsc around any fpdc made around 2nd fp puff (R12.1), *bpsc around next 7 sts, ch1, skip next st, bpsc around next 8 sts (R12.2)*, repeat ** 8 times. Omit last bpsc. Join to standing bpsc with a sl-st. (R12.3)

ROUND 13. ch1, (sc, ch1, sc) in same st (R13.3), *sc in next 4 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, dc3tog over (next st, ch1 and next st) (R13.2), hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 4 sts, in next st (sc, ch1, sc) (R13.3)*, repeat ** 8 times. Omit last sc, ch1, sc. Join to 1st sc with a sl-sts. (R13.4)

ROUND 14. ch1, sc in same st, *2sc in ch1 space (R14.1), sc in next 15 st (R14.2)*, repeat ** 8 times. Omit last sc. Join to 1st sc with a sl-st, fasten off, and secure ends. (R14.3)

    Marilyn, I think I found the square pattern in the group of granny squares called Crochet Granny Square Pattern/Crochet Motif #91.
