When we crochet the Aries mandala, we’re not just picking pretty shades. We’re telling a story. It’s the story of a seed that decides to sprout. For each of us, that seed is different: for some, it’s the seed of a new project; for others, the seed of a relationship they want to build; and for some, it’s the seed of themselves — a new, braver, more authentic version of who they are. The colors here aren’t just “red because it’s Aries.” Colors are the layers of this story. And each of us will tell it in our own way.
We’ve put together a palette of 20 colors for you. You can choose only the shades that truly speak to you — no need to follow our combinations. And of course, you can add your own colors, even if they’re not on the list. There’s only one rule: choose with your heart.
To make it easier, we’ve grouped the colors by theme. Each group is a stage of the journey. Along with the color name, we’ve included its hex code — you can type it right into your browser’s search bar to see exactly what it looks like.
1. Earth. What surrounds the seed before it sprouts

The seed lies in darkness. It’s warm, it’s safe, but it’s also cramped. All around is dense, heavy soil — the kind the sprout will have to push through. These colors are about boundaries, about pressure, about that “layer of earth” the sprout must overcome on its way to the light.
Black (#000000) — absolute darkness. The depth where it all begins.
Umber Brown (#3A2A1E) — dense, heavy earth. The deep layer.
Terracotta Brown (#9E5B40) — sun-warmed soil. The top layer, closer to the surface.
Dark Slate (#2F4F4F) — damp earth. You can already sense life in it.
Steel Blue (#4682B4) — a hard surface. What needs to be broken through with effort.
If your palette has a lot of these colors, you might be in a period of gathering strength before a big push. That’s okay. Seeds don’t sprout in an instant.
2. Pulse. What’s invisible outside, but already stirring within

Before the first visible change, there’s a quiet moment. The seed is still whole, but something inside is getting ready. This color is about that quiet moment — the pause before things start to shift.
Light Violet (#E0B0FF) — a soft, quiet color. It represents what hasn’t yet appeared, but is already there, waiting.
If this color speaks to you, you might be in a phase of quiet preparation — sensing that something is about to begin.
3. Impulse. The first click inside the seed

And then — that moment. The seed cracks open. Inside, there’s a click, and energy begins to move. This is pure impulse, the first push, the beginning of everything.
Scarlet Red (#FF0000) — pure red. Signal, flash, beginning.
Red-Orange (#FF4500) — impulse already turning into movement.
Crimson (#DC143C) — alive, warm, pulsing.
Salmon (#FA8072) — flesh, warmth, life about to break through.
These colors are about the energy of beginning. If you’re short on courage to take that first step — add them to your mandala. They’ll light your inner fire.
4. Breaking Through. The sprout pushing through soil

The hardest stage. The sprout exists, but it’s still underground. It has to push, to break through the layers, to fight its way to the light.
Fire Brick (#B22222) — effort. Fire mixed with earth.
Dark Red (#8B0000) — accumulated, mature strength.
If you feel resistance, if the crocheting feels hard — these colors will be your anchor. They remind you that pushing through is normal. It’s supposed to be this way.
5. Birth. First contact with light

And here it is — the first moment at the surface. The sprout is tiny, vulnerable, but it’s here. It has seen the light. It breathes.
Coral (#FF7F50) — soft, skin-like. Life itself.
Lawn Green (#7CFC00) — bright, juicy green. The sprout itself.
Green Yellow (#ADFF2F) — soft, young, just born.
Yellow-Green (#9ACD32) — already green, but still shy, uncertain.
These colors are about hope. If they’ve found their way into your palette, something new is growing inside you. Give it time to strengthen.
6. Protection and Strength. Colors of survival

In nature, a sprout isn’t just tender — it’s also surprisingly strong. It needs to protect itself, to survive, to adapt. These colors are about inner strength, about the ability to push through even the toughest ground.
Olive Drab (#4A5D23) — protective, earthy. A color of survival and quiet strength.
Olive (#808000) — calm, mature green. Almost earth, but already life.
If you need a sense of grounding, protection, an inner backbone — add these colors. They’re here to remind you: you’ve got this.
7. Light. What the sprout reaches for

The sprout reaches upward. Toward warmth, toward light, toward life. These colors are about light itself — the open field of possibilities that opens up for anyone who dares to begin.
Warm Gold (#D4AF37) — the first light touching the sprout.
White (#FFFFFF) — absolute light. Pure beginning. Pure field.
If you need inspiration right now, if you want to believe in something better — weave these shades into your mandala. They’ll remind you what it’s all for.
8. Destination. The goal and the inner guide

And finally — what the seed was pushing through the soil for. Not the finish line, but the promise of one. A hint that one day, having walked the full circle, you’ll become something greater.
Gold (#FFD700) — the radiance of a goal. Result, reward.
Silver (#C0C0C0) — intuition. Inner voice. Moonlight guiding through darkness.
These colors are like a beacon. Even if you’re just at the beginning of your journey, they’re already here to remind you: you have a destination. And you will get there.
How to Build Your Own Palette
Now that you know what these colors are saying, try putting together your own story.
Here are a few questions to help:
- Where am I today? Am I still in the earth, or am I already pushing toward the light?
- Which colors do I feel drawn to? Which ones feel like too much right now?
- What do I want this mandala to say? What’s my story?
You can:
- take as many colors as you like and create a rich, full mandala;
- choose just one group if you want to focus on a specific stage;
- build your own unique set based on what speaks to you right now;
- add new colors that aren’t on this list — if your heart asks for them.
In the “12 Treasures of the Zodiac” project, there are no right or wrong answers. There’s only your path, your state of being, and your mandala.
Let this be your story.
