After Libra, which taught us harmony, beauty, and balance, comes Scorpio. If Libra is lightness, aesthetics, and equilibrium — Scorpio is depth, intensity, and transformation.
Let’s go back to our little story about the garden.
In Aries, the seed sprouted. In Taurus, we harvested the fruit. In Gemini, the plant met others. In Cancer, we touched depth, memory, and what nourishes us from within. In Leo, we created a garden to bring joy to others. In Virgo, we cared for this garden — watered it, weeded it, healed it. In Libra, we decorated it, creating harmony and beauty.

Now imagine: what happens next? Autumn comes. Leaves fall, flowers fade, the garden prepares for winter. But this is not the end. Beneath the ground, life continues — roots, seeds, hidden processes. What dies on the outside is preparing for something new on the inside.
Scorpio is the time of transformation. It’s the moment when we meet what is hidden, what we usually hide from ourselves and others. It’s a crisis that becomes a turning point. It’s the death of the old and the birth of the new.
There is a treasure hidden in this sign — often mistaken for something dark, dangerous, or destructive. But in reality, it’s about renewal. This is the Treasure of Transformation. The ability to pass through a crisis and come out a different person. The skill of seeing what is hidden, trusting intuition, and finding strength in the depths.
The Scorpio mandala is the eighth in our project “12 Treasures of the Zodiac. Crocheting Mandalas Together.” You can find all the details about the project, as well as tutorials for the previous signs (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra) on this page. In this same article, you’ll find all the materials for the Scorpio mandala.

Scorpio is the eighth sign of the zodiac. It is the energy of depth, transformation, intuition, and rebirth.
Imagine someone who feels what is hidden behind words and actions. They don’t trust the surface — they see the essence. They are capable of passing through the darkest periods and emerging renewed. They have strong will, deep intuition, and the ability to see things through to the end.
Scorpio is often associated with crisis, passion, and power. But if you strip away the stereotypes — Scorpio is about transformation. About the ability to die and be reborn. About meeting your true self — without illusions or masks.
This sign teaches us: sometimes we need to destroy the old to build the new. Sometimes we need to descend into the depths to find treasure there. Sometimes a crisis is not an end — it’s a beginning.
Key words: transformation, depth, intuition, rebirth, crisis, strength, mystery.
Scorpio is transformation
Aries was the seed. Taurus was the fruit. Gemini was the meeting with others. Cancer was depth and memory. Leo was the garden for others. Virgo was the care for the garden. Libra was the beauty and harmony of the garden.
Scorpio is the meeting with what is hidden beneath the ground.
Imagine an autumn garden. The leaves have fallen, the flowers have withered, everything looks empty and quiet. But if you look beneath the soil, something else is happening: roots keep growing, seeds prepare for spring, microorganisms work to restore the earth. What looks like death on the outside is preparation for new life on the inside.
Scorpio teaches us: transformation is not always beautiful. Sometimes it looks like destruction. Sometimes it’s frightening. But it is through this that we become stronger.
And there’s another important layer: Scorpio is the ability to see what is hidden. Not only in others, but in ourselves. What we hide from ourselves — fears, desires, shadow sides — all of this can become a source of strength if we look at it honestly.
The shadow side: fear of losing control
Scorpio energy has its shadow side too. We may encounter it while crocheting the mandala or simply living our lives.
Fear of vulnerability. Scorpio is afraid to show weakness. They prefer to control, to keep everything under control, not to let anyone too close. But this very protection prevents them from opening up and getting what they want.
Tendency to manipulate. When we fear losing control, we start managing others. Not directly, but through cunning, influence, through sensing other people’s weaknesses.
Getting stuck in crisis. Sometimes transformation becomes an end in itself. We get so used to drama, to constant tension, that we can no longer imagine living any other way. And then the crisis becomes a way of life.
Distrust. Scorpio often doesn’t fully trust anyone. They expect a catch, see hidden motives where there are none. This is protection — but it also prevents real relationships.
Destruction for its own sake. When pain is not processed, it can spill out as aggression, a desire to destroy everything around. This is Scorpio’s lowest point — destruction for the sake of destruction.
With the Scorpio mandala, we work on this: learning to meet the shadow without fear. To see what is hidden — but not lose trust in the world. To pass through crisis — but not get stuck in it. To use our strength for creation, not destruction.
What we experience in the Scorpio mandala
Our Scorpio mandala is a meeting with opposites within a single pattern.
The design of this mandala was born from a conversation with Veronika. We talked about how Scorpio unites opposites, and how important it is to reflect this in the texture and relief of the fabric. That’s how the idea of contrast came about: smooth and prickly, hidden and revealed. The effect of a lacquered surface with cracks. Sharp edges. Hidden cavities. And small floral motifs that remind us that even in the deepest darkness, there is life.
Like other mandalas in the series, this one is first created as a circle — wholeness, self-sufficiency. Then, as it grows, corners are added, and the circle becomes a square. But in Scorpio, this transition is especially important: it’s a transition from depth to form, from hidden to revealed.
Beginning: a look into the depths. We lay down the center — the point where everything begins. This is the moment of meeting your true self. Without masks, without illusions. Here we learn not to fear what is hidden.
Textures and opposites. The mandala grows, and different textures appear — smooth and relief, simple and complex. This is a reminder: within us there is both light and shadow, both strength and vulnerability. We learn to accept all of it.
Cracks and sharp edges. At a certain stage, elements appear that create a sense of fracture, of cracks. This symbolizes the crisis we pass through. But a crack is not only destruction — it’s also a place through which light enters.
Floral motifs. Even in the deepest depth, there is life. Even in crisis, there is something alive reaching toward the light. These motifs remind us of rebirth.
Completion: coming to the surface. The circle has become a square. The mandala is complete. This is not perfect symmetry, but a living balance after transformation. We have passed through the depths and returned — different.
How to work with the mandala. Meditation tips.
We will start crocheting the Scorpio mandala when the Sun enters this sign. We’ll have a month to pass through transformation. How to make this process especially deep?
Allow yourself to feel. Scorpio is about emotions we usually suppress. As you crochet, notice what rises inside. Anger? Sadness? Fear? Don’t push them away. Just let them be.
Notice what you hide. Scorpio often hides. Observe yourself: what don’t you want to show others? What do you hide even from yourself? Crochet is a safe space where you can look at this honestly.
Work with contrasts. In this mandala, there is smooth and prickly, hidden and revealed. Notice how these opposites live in you. Where are you smooth, and where are you prickly? What do you show, and what do you hide?
Don’t fear the crisis. If something goes wrong while crocheting — unravel it, start over. That, too, is transformation. It’s a small practice of passing through difficulty without panic.
Trust your intuition. Scorpio is the sign of inner knowing. As you crochet, don’t overthink. Trust your hands. Trust your sensations. Let the mandala lead you.
A little secret
Scorpio lives in every one of us. Even if you’re the lightest Gemini or the most harmonious Libra, inside you lives this deep, strong, transforming part. The one that knows how to pass through crisis and emerge renewed.
Don’t be afraid of this part. Don’t dismiss it as dark or dangerous. It is your strength. It is your capacity for rebirth.
Allowing yourself to pass through transformation — that is the path to the treasure.

Yarn and color palette selection
The Scorpio mandala, like the other mandalas, is made in a unified style with the other designs in the series. Each mandala is developed by Veronika so that all the finished pieces can later be assembled into one large beautiful blanket. To quickly find answers to questions about yarn, size, number of colors, and to see examples of finished mandalas — watch my video recorded using the Aries mandala as an example.
Which yarn to choose and how much will you need?
You can crochet the mandala from any yarn. In the video tutorial and all the photos for the pattern, YarnArt Jeans yarn was used (50 g / 160 m skeins). The pattern is written for 5 shades of yarn. You will need one skein of each color for the round mandala.
You don’t have to follow the 5-color layout — you can use any number of colors. Hook size: 3.5 mm. Finished size for square mandala 58 cm.
How to choose colors for your project?
If you’d like to dive deeper into the energy of Scorpio and crochet the mandala in its colors — check out the article “Scorpio Crochet Mandala: Choosing Colors.” I’ve put together a palette of 22 shades to make your choice easier.
